cycles and rhythms
"....to everything (turn, turn, turn) there is a season (turn, turn, turn) and a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to reap, that which is planted.....A time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance......" The Book of Ecclesiastes / Pete Seeger
Cycles are the core and the key to astrological analysis........for the wheel is in constant motion. Each moment is new and subtly distinct. From the daily motion of the Earth on its axis, via which we chart the progress of the Sun, Moon and planets through the 12 astrological houses; to the annual cycle of the seasons and the 'journey of the Sun' through the 12 signs; to the great 26,000 year sweep of the 12 astrological ages, time rules! Each of the Sun, Moon and planets has its own cycle. These range from the approximately 28 day cycle of the Moon, through the 2 yearly and 12 yearly cycles of Mars and Jupiter, out to the 248 year cycle of Pluto......and everything in between. In astrology we pay close attention to these cycles; to the movement of the outer planets (in particular) as they slowly move from sign to sign; and to the relationships between any 2 (or more) planets as they form geometric aspects to each other. From these planetary rhythms we look for potential correspondences in earthly life - trends or showings in the political, economic, artistic, scientific and spiritual spheres, both personal and collective, that reflect the archetypal themes of the planets/signs involved. Each astrological month in the what's happening? section of 'across the universe' you will find a review of the ever changing planetary picture and what it has to reveal! |
