In between a busy business career and a life time practising meditation, I have been studying, teaching and consulting on astrology, for more than 25 years. In that time I have never stopped being amazed at its multi levels and its capacity to inform. From something as seemingly familiar as the Sun sign to the most oblique esoteric concept, it reveals in the most surprising of ways, a little more of itself............often when you least expect it!
In this respect it is much like the 'march' of science, which from week to week and year to year and generation to generation expands, sometimes radically, its understanding of a given subject. Often the new understanding contradicts the previous 'facts'. All the while the picture gets bigger, the mystery deeper. It is like Salome's dance, with more and more veils hiding the ultimate reality.
At around age seven I first ‘looked up’. I was struck not only by the beauty of the night sky but by a sense of its mystery. This was my first ‘aha’ moment……… a feeling of a much, much bigger world. I had of course looked often at the stars, as children do, but in this there was a more conscious sense of connection.
Seven is a special age. It is a time when a developmental shift or awakening takes place in regards our sense of self. The number itself is esteemed in many cultures and was revered by the Pythagorean School due to its association with the musical scale and the color wheel, among other phenomena. Years later I would learn that seven years (and multiples of seven years) are closely associated with the cycles of Uranus, Saturn and the Moon
My affection for the starry worlds ebbed and flowed as the activities of youth drew my attention. But every now and then I would stop for a few moments and look up……. and wonder.
During my mid twenties a renaissance of sorts took place, when I was propelled by a great urge to learn. This would make up for much of my school days, when the desire had lain seemingly dormant and un-stimulated. Thirty odd years later I am still on the path of learning.
My interests in astrology are many: personal, relational, global, mythological, archetypal, practical, spiritual, universal. I try to synthesize as many, or as few, elements as seem applicable to a given scenario. In particular I focus on a free will approach, where the individual's choice is ever the key 'influence'.
I undertake personal readings; provide decorative, individually designed and bound charts (including for children) and conduct classes and workshops for those interested in learning about or furthering their astrological knowledge. I also write a regular blog 'Across the Universe' dedicated to astrological and related themes. Please follow the links for further information.

quintelligence
The inspiration for the name quintelligence came.....as the best ideas seem to do....out of the blue! And after investigating its range of potential meanings it seemed to align, quite perfectly, with our aspirations.
'Quin' means five. 'Intelligence' relates to the capacity of the mind to understand principles, truths, facts and meaning; to acquire knowledge, and to apply it to practice.
'Quintessence' means literally the 5th essence, or element, which in alchemy represents spirit (the other 4 of course being fire, water, earth and air). It has come to be more commonly known as the essence of a thing - the most perfect example of its type. It is also a synonym of 'paradigm' - which links it back to intelligence.
In symbolism 5 is the number of the pentagram, or five pointed star, and relates to the idea of evolving man. It is also associated with the principles of health and unity. In mathematics it is the basis of 'phi' and the 'golden proportion', one of the numbers and proportions held sacred by the Pythagorean School. 'Phi' is known, and often revered, for its aesthetic quality as expressed in art, anatomy, architecture and nature. In astronomy 5 is related to the orbit of Venus around the Sun. In an eight year (360 degree) cycle Venus makes 5 superior conjunctions with the Sun, tracing a pentagram pattern in the process! In both astrology and mythology Venus is herself associated with beauty, art, creativity and perfection.
In esoteric, or soul centred astrology, Venus is the planetary ruler of the 5th Ray - the Ray of Concrete Knowledge (or Science). The relation of 5 (5th Ray) and Concrete Knowledge (Science) is uniquely reflected by the word 'quintelligence'.
In numerology 5 is the 'middle' number (between 1 and 9) and is associated, amongst other things, with 'balance'. Coincidently quintelligence has 14 letters (and1+4 = 5!).
In terms of personal synchronicity.....Venus is said to be 'exalted' in Pisces - my Sun sign. And as a young boy, long before my thoughts turned to any of these things, 5 was (and still is) my favourite number!
All things considered, quintelligence might best be described as a quality of spirit, or a container, of all that we can know and comprehend - the 'essence of intelligence'. It is at once a meeting place, a balance point and a synthesis of 4 types of intelligence - intellectual, emotional, instinctive and intuitive, distilled from and producing a uniquely 5th element.......a 5th intelligence!
